This is an amazing TedTalk. I had thought (and hoped) that exposing babies to the sounds of second and third languages through video or radio might be a viable way to teach them to recognize the sounds of those languages, and perhaps eliminate pronunciation and accent struggles. After hearing about this research, I’m not so sure anymore.
Peggy Tharpe teaches, coaches, and publishes about English pronunciation and intonation. She believes that if you understand why something is happening, you're better able to address it and change it. She teaches the "why" of pronunciation as well as the "what" and "how".
